BAE SYSTEMS Pilot Direct Broadcast System Achieves Delivery Milestone
10 Mar 2003
The Pilot Direct Broadcast System (DBS), designed and supplied by BAE Systems C4ISR to support the information management needs of British Forces during expeditionary deployments, has achieved its Mid Operating Capability (MOC) following a series of successful acceptance trials.
The system delivers military information on a world-wide basis over a one-way, secure, satellite broadcast system to multiple, geographically dispersed, military client communities, tailored to their specific command & control requirements.
Information transfer typically includes the broadcast of video briefings, dissemination of knowledge from defence information systems, and the transmission of data from geographical applications.
The Pilot DBS features robust security measures, minimal manpower requirements and low lifecycle costs. The Portsmouth-based BAE Systems C4ISR team supplied an Initial Operating Capability in early 2002. The Final Operating Capability is expected at the end of 2003.
Paul Laity, Managing Director of C4ISR's Communications & Defence Infrastructure Division commented "BAE Systems' continued development of the Pilot DBS requirement embodies the C4ISR Group's comprehensive understanding of Network Enabled Capability requirements within the digitized battlespace. Knowledge of broadcast system management and interfaces are also reflected in our innovative approach to this major information systems project."
