MINOT AIR FORCE BASE, N.D. (ACCNS) -- The 5th Bomb Wing will deploy troops over the next few weeks to support the global war on terrorism and to prepare for future contingencies.

"The deployment of our forces allows us to bring global strike range, agility and precision payload to the fight to rapidly meet military objectives worldwide," said Col. Kevin Kennedy, the commander of the 5th BW.

"We've seen many of our people deploy to locations around the world in this continuing fight," Colonel Kennedy said. "We are extremely proud of these men and women who play a vital role in defending this great nation."

Units are building pallets and getting their members ready to leave on a moment's notice, said 2nd Lt. Shane Wehunt, the 5th BW installation deployment officer.

"It is the member's responsibility to ensure they are fully deployable," Lieutenant Wehunt said. "Don't wait to get your tasking. Take care of deployment matters beforehand."

One member preparing to deploy said he's going on his fifth deployment and is very excited to deploy again.

"My family's prepared and I'm prepared," he said.

The deploying members are ready to give their all in support of the war on terrorism, Colonel Kennedy said.

"We are absolutely 100 percent prepared," he said. "We train every day to be prepared to go do the business (we have to do). I tell the guys it's like being a fireman -- you practice for something you hope never happens, but when it comes, you're ready to go."
