Additional Soldiers Prepare to Deploy

FORT RILEY, KAN. (March 4, 2003)- The remainder of the 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division and additional soldiers from the 937th Engineer Group received orders this week to prepare to deploy in support of Central Command operations.

These soldiers will support the President's global war against terrorism.

The active duty units that received orders this week include approximately 2,100 soldiers from the following units:

Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division
4th Battalion, 1st Field Artillery
70th Engineer Battalion
125th Forward Support Battalion
Battery C, 1st Battalion, 4th Air Defense Artillery
596th Signal Company
Troop H, 1st Cavalry
523rd Military Police Detachment
Detachment E, 15th Personnel Services Battalion
1st Ordnance Company

With these additional orders, approximately 4,500 active duty soldiers with the 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division and 937th Engineer Group have received deployment orders to support the global war against terrorism. As of March 4, approximately 1,100 soldiers have already deployed to the CENTCOM area of responsibility.

Additionally, between 400 and 500 soldiers from the 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division and supporting elements are preparing to deploy to the Republic of Korea for Operation Foal Eagle, a planned training exercise. Approximately 150 soldiers have already deployed.

Members of the 1st Battalion, 34th Armor, 1st Brig., 1st Inf. Div. and supporting elements are also deploying where required to prepare for and support the President's campaign against terrorism and support additional security measures where required by higher headquarters.

For security reasons deployment destinations and dates will not be announced at this time, and 24th Infantry Division (Mech) and Fort Riley officials will not speculate on future deployment of additional forces.
