Additional Soldiers Prepare to Deploy
FORT RILEY, KAN. (Feb. 26, 2003)- Approximately 900 more Fort Riley soldiers, from the 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division and 937th Engineer Group, received orders this week to prepare to deploy in support of Central Command operations.
"My soldiers just returned from a four-week exercise at the National Training Center in the Mojave Desert where they received the most realistic training to prepare them for combat. After watching them in action, I am totally confident that my leaders and soldiers are trained and ready for any action they are called upon to execute," said Col. Russell Gold, brigade commander, 3rd Brig. 1st Armored Div.
"They are totally proficient in their go-to-war mission essential tasks, they are motivated, confident, and filled with pride. There is no doubt in my mind that they know why they wear the Army uniform, and why our nation is calling upon them to act," said Gold.
"I cannot be more proud of the men and women that make up this Brigade Combat Team. They are the best representatives that we could ever send to show our country's strength and values it holds of our way of life," he added.
Additionally, 300 more Reserve and National Guard soldiers have received orders to mobilize at Fort Riley and prepare to deploy to this region.
These soldiers will support the President's global war against terrorism.
The active duty units who received orders include elements of 1st Battalion, 13th Armor; 172nd Chemical Company; 523rd Military Police Detachment and 977th Military Police Company.
The Reserve and National Guard units who received orders include elements of 1139th Military Police Company, Harrisonville, Mo.; 135th Rear Tactical Operations Center, Kansas City, Mo.; 323rd Engineer Detachment, El Dorado, Kan.; 445th Medical Detachment, Independence, Mo.; 450th Transportation Corps Battalion, Manhattan, Kan.; 607th Transportation Corps Detachment, Manhattan, Kan.; 1011th Quarter Master Company, Independence, Kan. and 3662nd Maintenance Company, Devils Lake, N.D.
To date, approximately 1,500 active duty soldiers with the 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored Division and the 937th Engineer Group have received deployment orders, 300 of which deployed earlier this month.
Fort Riley has assisted with nearly 3,600 Reserve and National Guard mobilizations to support efforts at home and abroad.
As of Feb. 19, a total of 114,141 Army National Guard and Reserve soldiers have been called to active duty nationwide.
For security reasons deployment destinations and dates will not be announced at this time, and 24th Infantry Division (Mech) and Fort Riley officials will not speculate on future deployment of additional forces.
