U.S. Navy Awards General Dynamics $17 Million for Work on the Submarine Jimmy Carter

GROTON, Conn. – The U.S. Navy has awarded General Dynamics Electric Boat a $17.4 million contract modification to perform additional testing and development work on the Jimmy Carter (SSN-23). Electric Boat is a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).

This award modifies an $886 million contract, initially awarded in December 1999, that will allow the submarine to accommodate advanced technology for naval special warfare, tactical surveillance and mine-warfare operations.

General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs approximately 54,000 people worldwide and had 2002 revenues of $13.8 billion. The company has leading market positions in land and amphibious combat systems, mission-critical information systems and technologies, shipbuilding and marine systems, and business aviation.
