LOCKHEED MARTIN AWARDED AN IDIQ CONTRACT FOR TACTICAL DEFENSE MESSAGE SYSTEM
OWEGO, NY, February 24th, 2003 -- Lockheed Martin was awarded a contract to provide up to 150 deployable Tactical Defense Message System (TDMS) units to the U.S. Marine Corps. The order is an Indefinite Delivery, Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) firm-fixed price contract for up to $6.3 million. TDMS will provide the Marines with connectivity to the Department of Defense's (DoD) overall communications backbone via secure satellite transmissions from remote locations, seamlessly integrating the Defense Message System (DMS) into their deployed operations. Comprised of three Dell PowerEdge servers, this portable unit includes an Exchange server, a DMS dissemination system automated message processor and a local directory, with built-in redundancy for continuity of operations.
The TDMS is outfitted with DMS Release 3.0 products. These software packages are integrated by Lockheed Martin to support DoD's ongoing initiative to provide high-grade security for the military's organizational messaging enterprise. DMS Release 3.0 is the replacement for AUTODIN, the DoD's aging legacy messaging system.
Lockheed Martin also will provide TMDS user training material, certification and maintenance. Dell Computer will provide the system hardware and worldwide logistics support.
