ABOARD USS CONSTELLATION, At Sea (NNS) -- In yet another demonstration of the strength of the international coalition supporting the global war on terrorism, five senior Kuwaiti military officials recently spent an evening on 'America's Flagship,' USS Constellation (CV 64). The group of distinguished officials were led by Maj. Gen. Ahmed al-Mulla, Chief, Kuwaiti Naval Forces.
During their visit, the group toured many spaces throughout the ship and watched flight operations before meeting for briefings with assorted ship and battle group personnel. A member of both the Global Counter-Terrorism Force and the Multinational Maritime Interception Force, Kuwait has played a pivotal role in both combatting terrorism and in upholding United Nations sanctions against Iraq.
The overnight visit was organized through Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command and hosted by Commander, Cruiser-Destroyer Group 1, Rear Adm. Barry M. Costello.
When questioned about the recent visit, Costello commented, "It was an honor and a privilege to host Maj. Gen. al-Mulla. I look forward to future opportunities to work closely with him as we go forward together in the global war on terrorism."
Stressing the importance of coalition solidarity, Costello further emphasized, "Maj. Gen. al-Mulla's visit to America's Flagship symbolizes the high degree of cooperation between our two navies. He has been a visionary for the Kuwaiti Navy and is a leading force in ensuring the seamless movement of U.S. forces during current operations in the Gulf."
Constellation has hosted many dignitaries in recent months. The ship's commanding officer, Captain John W. Miller, remarked, "It is always a pleasure to demonstrate the hard work and dedication of the crew of America's Flagship. We were honored by the visit of our distinguished Kuwaiti allies."
After a busy 24 hours, the Kuwaiti guests expressed gratitude to their hosts prior to heading to the flight deck for departure. In a display of appreciation, al-Mulla presented Costello and Miller with ballcaps embroidered "Kuwaiti Naval Force. Be confident. We are on WATCH!"
