Lockheed Martin Announces Technology Transfer with Growell Electronics and Growell Telecom
Will Serve to Support South Korean Microcircuit Manufacturing
Moorestown, NJ, February 21st, 2003 -- Lockheed Martin announced today a commercial licensing agreement and technology transfer program with Growell Electronics and Growell Telecom, South Korean microcircuit and telecommunications module manufacturers.
Under the terms of the contract, valued at $4.5 million, Lockheed Martin will license to Growell the right to use unique patents and technology know-how to produce high density interconnect (HDI) multi-chip modules. In addition, Lockheed Martin will receive royalty payments based on Growell's sales. The modules are critical production components in a variety of commercial markets.
Lockheed Martin's Naval Electronics & Surveillance Systems business in Moorestown, N.J., will provide existing HDI equipment and set-up for Growell's facility located in Seoul, South Korea, as well as engineering expertise, design application and training support on the overall HDI processes. Under the license structure, Growell will have limited worldwide exclusivity for this technology in the areas of communication handheld devices, audio/visual controllers, high precision instruments, intelligent home appliances and wearable computer devices.
Lockheed Martin originally developed its HDI technology to support military radar applications. In recent years, the demand for commercial use of the technology has grown dramatically. Growell's use of the technology is limited to commercial applications.
