ABOARD USS BATAAN, At Sea (NNS) -- Major General John F. Sattler, Commanding General 2nd Marine Division, Joint Task Force Horn of Africa, visited USS Bataan (LHD 5) recently. He arrived by helicopter from the USS Mount Whitney (LCC-20) to speak with Bataan's Sailors and Marines.
"We are proud of where you come from and what you are doing. As you pass through our area of operation, our thoughts and prayers are with you. We know how hard you train, and this is a great, uplifting moment for me to be out here on the Bataan. Success to the Navy and Marine Corps team, and may God bless you and your families," said Sattler over the ship's 1MC.
"I thought what Major General Sattler said over the 1MC was very inspiring. It made me feel good to know that he came out to Bataan to show how much he cares about what we are all doing," said Yeoman Seaman John Stubbs.
After the General's 1MC remarks, he was able to meet and speak with Marines up close to tell them to use this down time to mentally prepare, physically train and be ready.
"This is great. We've heard him many times before. It's motivation to have him come out here and speak to the troops," said Staff Sgt. Allen Fowler, 2nd Marine Division Lima Company. "It was unexpected, but it's like seeing your father and you feel proud that he took the time to come by," he added.
"It's good to go that he's checking on the Marines. It's motivating, it lifted our spirits and it's inspiring," said Sgt. Richard Parrish, 2nd Marine Division Lima Company.
Sattler ended his brief tour by saying, "This is truly uplifting to be out here on the Bataan and see first hand the relationship out here between the Navy and the Marine Corps. This is the best relationship that I've seen out here, and it's truly a blue, green mix."
