ABOARD USS CONSTELLATION, At Sea (NNS) -- USS Constellation (CV 64) has been busy doing what it does best this week - conducting flight operations in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Southern Watch.

The San Diego-based "Connie," currently deployed to the Arabian Gulf, boasts many milestones to include 41 years of service and 21 deployments. On Jan. 19, the ship added another accomplishment to the list by recording its 390,000th trap.

Lt. Frank Wittwer, flying Falcon 407, an F/A-18C Hornet from Strike/Fighter Squadron (VFA) 137, caught the number two wire, at 8:53 p.m., marking the milestone trap for the ship.

When asked how he felt about the landmark trap, Wittwer commented, "I am just glad to humbly follow in the shadows of Navy legends like Lt. Randy Cunningham and Lt. j.g. Willie Driscoll."

Randy "Duke" Cunningham, now a California congressman, and Willie Driscoll, became America's first fighter aces of the Vietnam War by downing three MiGs during vicious dog fighting over North Vietnam, in May 1972.
