NSWC Port Hueneme completes Task Force Web Application

By Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division Public Affairs

PORT HUENEME, Ca - Due to the efforts of Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division's, Air Dominance Department, the AEGIS Combat System and Joint Battle Force Capabilities and Limitations (C&L) Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals are now a Task Force Web application aboard Theodore Roosevelt Battle Group ships.

Port Hueneme Division engineers recently developed a back end connector to the Web, which enables sailors to reference up-to-date C&L information from a single sign-on portal environment available to all ships within the battle group. This effort provides Sailors with the ability to access multiple applications while afloat, which can serve as an invaluable tool during deployments. Use of the connection also reduces costs associated with update of applications, eliminates the need for multiple databases, and facilitates the training process.

According to a department spokesperson, the C&L manuals are a comprehensive technical reference providing information about operation and performance of naval combat systems and tactical data links. The manuals document how systems acquire data, fuse data into a coherent picture of battle space, and share the picture inside the lifelines and across the battle force. The C&L define how elements function, what controls exist, and how they interact to produce operational combat systems and data links. Wherever possible, lessons learned and approved work-arounds to known technical issues are referenced along with a comprehensive list of known system anomalies.

C&L manuals are developed specifically for each Battle Force or combat system baseline and in response to alterations providing significant improvements in major warfare or command and control capabilities. C&L manuals are classified, and reside on the SIPRNET at http://cnl.phdnswc.navy.smil.mil .
