U.S. DEPARTMENT OF STATE
Office of the Spokesman
February 7, 2003
STATEMENT BY RICHARD BOUCHER, SPOKESMAN
LAOS - ATTACK IN VIENTIANE PROVINCE
The United States condemns the February 6 attack in Laos near Vang
Vieng in Vientiane province. The attack reportedly left 12 dead and 26
wounded on a heavily trafficked road north of the capital Vientiane.
We are outraged at the suffering of innocent civilians in this brutal
attack, whose intent appears to have been to kill and rob as many
victims as possible. We support the rule of law in Laos and the
efforts of the Lao Government to identify the perpetrators and bring
them to justice.
