Lockheed Martin Canada To Deliver State-Of-The-Art Health Information System To The Department Of National Defence
Ottawa, Canada, February 5th, 2003 -- Lockheed Martin Canada, a unit of Lockheed Martin Corporation (NYSE: LMT), has been awarded a multi-year contract by the Department of National Defence to deliver a state-of-the-art health care information system. The system will ensure Canadian Forces members that their health information is accurately collected, protected and made available to authorized personnel wherever they serve and receive health care services.
The current contract covers the first phase of 14 months and is worth approximately Can$17 million. The contract has the potential to exceed an estimated value of Can$56 million if all four phases are delivered over the 10-year period.
The Canadian Forces Health Information System (CFHIS) will integrate a series of standalone systems that will support the provision of care by the Canadian Forces Health Services while a member is either in Canada or deployed on operations. CFHIS is specifically designed to protect and ensure the Canadian Forces member's right to privacy and confidentiality of their health information in accordance with government legislation through the use of encryption software in addition to standard Department of National Defence security measures.
"This system will provide health care providers with electronic health information and decision support tools here in Canada and around the world. Administrators also will be afforded access to non-patient specific information that will enable them to make informed decisions that will translate into improved delivery of health care," said Dan Spoor, president and CEO of Lockheed Martin Canada. "The Government of Canada has promoted the development of electronic health records and we are delighted to have been selected to lead such a talented team and to be delivering this vital program to the Canadian Forces."
