NSWC Corona Supports Battle Group Connectivity, Army Training
By NSWC Corona Division Public Affairs
CORONA, Calif. -- Naval Surface Warfare Center Corona Division recently provided support to the warfighter to keep ships at sea and Army helicopters in the air. Corona Division provided hardware and training to Cruiser Destroyer Group Five for secure Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) capability.
VoIP will be utilized during an upcoming exercise to allow the Air Defense Commander (ADC) and alternate ADC on USS Princeton (CG 59) and USS Chosin (CG 65) to participate in daily operations briefs with the battle group commander.
VoIP capability was initially used for secure communications between USS Nimitz (CVN 68), Corona Division, and the test range during the battle group's combat system testing. The battle group commander then requested VoIP for other ships in the battle group.
This capability will also be used to provide the battle group with secure "reach back" capability to the technical community if assistance is needed in-theater during deployment.
The Cherry Point TACTS and Mid-Atlantic Electronic Warfare Range, operated by Corona Division, provided two weeks of electronic warfare training to the Falcon Brigade, 2-10 Aviation Wing of the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division, Light Infantry stationed at Fort Drum, N.Y.
