NORFOLK, Va. (NNS) -- Hundreds of Naval Reservists attached to Naval Cargo Handling Battalions (NCHB) across the United States have been recalled to active duty in support of the war on terrorism.
Storekeepers 2nd Class Donna Williams and Treven Feleciano of NCHB-13's Air Cargo Company (ACC) are among those who have answered the call.
Williams and Feleciano, both from Kansas City, Mo., say the mobilization process in Norfolk has been a smooth one.
"I was recalled during Desert Storm/Desert Shield," said Williams, who added that the members of her unit are being handled efficiently by the mobilization team. "It's going a lot smoother this time around."
For Feleciano, this is his first mobilization. The 11-year Naval Reserve veteran said the process has been very positive on him but difficult on his family.
"My family and friends are taking it harder than I am. We have a job to do, and we can't wait to do it and then return home," said Feleciano.
Feleciano, a loan officer in his civilian life, said his unit was notified well in advance, almost too much in advance.
"The waiting around to go has been hard. We just want to get on with the job," he said.
Williams said the members of their unit are like family, allowing for the mobilization process to run much easier.
"The unit is like family because we are friends and not just workmates," said Williams, who is an orthodontics assistant in her civilian life. Both Williams and Feleciano say their unit is trained and ready to go.
The mission of the unit is to move cargo by air, with mail being the top priority.
