GUAM - For Sailors aboard USS Frank Cable (AS 40), the fourth time seems to be a charm as the crew won their fourth consecutive Battle Efficiency award. Commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet announced recently that Frank Cable was tops in the submarine tender category for 2002.
Commander, Submarine Squadron (SUBRON) 15 Capt. Joseph Mulloy presented the award to Frank Cable commanding officer Capt. Kevin Ryan and the submarine tender's command master chief CMDCM (SS/SW) David Kennedy on the ship's flight deck Jan. 23.
Frank Cable also won the following departmental awards as part of the battle efficiency competition: Repair Red "R"; Engineering Red "E"; Navigation Red and Green "N"; Weapons Black "W"; Medical Yellow "M"; Dental Yellow "D"; Supply Blue "E", Damage Control Red "DC" and Deck Seamanship White "D."
During the award presentation, Mulloy expressed his appreciation to the crew for their excellent performance.
" They (Sailors) know how to do it properly, safely, and train and lead," he said. "That's from the wardroom to chiefs to all people in blue right here on the decks who do the work. It's also a measured thank you from your type commander."
Mulloy also spoke on the importance of having Frank Cable homeported in Guam.
"It's an amazing amount of work that your crew can provide for the island and for the ship." Mulloy noted. ".Unfortunately the world events have shifted. The Secretary of Defense needs our support out here, and needs the ships ready. Where else do they go when they want ships ready in the Pacific Fleet.Frank Cable."
According to SUBRON 15, Frank Cable's Battle "E" award is based on a superior record of support to the fleet. This is the fourth consecutive year that Cable has received the award.
