FORT LEWIS, Wash.- Approximately 1200 Fort Lewis soldiers have received deployment orders to the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) area of operation to support the global war on terrorism and to prepare for future contingencies as may be directed.
The deploying soldiers, active duty and reservists, are from elements of the 555th Engineer Group and the 62nd Medical Brigade.
Although the units are preparing to deploy, the exact date and ultimate location have not been released.
The President of the United States has made no decision about any future military operations; these deployments are prudent steps to increase military capabilities and enhance flexibility.
