HICKAM AIR FORCE BASE, Hawaii-- Approximately 60 people from the 56th Air Operations Squadron, 56th Air Communications Squadron and the Pacific Air Forces Air Intelligence Squadron, Hickam AFB, Hawaii, will deploy to Yokota Air Base, Japan and set-up a deployable, Joint Air Operations Center Jan. 15-30.
Units from the U.S. Air Force, U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, Japanese Air Self Defense Force and Japanese Ground Self Defense Forces will conduct exercise Yama Sakura 43 at various U.S. and Japanese military installations throughout Japan.
Yama Sakura is a regularly scheduled bilateral exercise and is part of the on-going series of bilateral exercises designed to enhance bilateral contingency planning. It is sponsored by U.S. Army and the Joint Staff Office and rotates among the five regional armies of the JGSDF.
Yama Sakura has been in the planning stages for several months and bears no connection to any real-world events. (PACAFNS)
