FORT BRAGG, N.C.- Elements of the XVIII Airborne Corps stationed at Fort Bragg have received deployment orders to reposition forces as required to support the global war against terrorism.
A Brigade Combat Team from the 82d Airborne Division, elements of the XVIII Airborne Corps Artillery, elements of the 35th Signal Brigade, and elements of the 525th Military Intelligence Brigade have received deployment orders. The deployments will take place over the next several weeks. The majority of these units, and the units announced on Friday, will be repositioned to the U.S. Central Command Area of Operations.
This repositioning of forces provides increased military capabilities in the ongoing war on terror. Any further employment of those forces deploying in a future combat role is a Presidential decision.
Fort Bragg and the XVIII Airborne Corps have responded from the outset of the war on terror and we continue to deploy forces to Afghanistan, Central Asia, Southwest Asia and Europe. As is our hallmark, we are trained and ready to deploy on short notice as required to defend America's interests at home and worldwide.
For units that have received deployment orders, we will not discuss specific numbers of troops deploying or deployment destinations at this time, or speculate on future employment of forces.
