620th EABG gets new home, new commander

CAMP BONDSTEEL, KOSOVO (USAFENS) -- The 620th Expeditionary Air Base Group has a new home and - as of Friday - a new commander.

Lt. Col. Chris Kenny assumed command Jan. 3 in a ceremony presided over by Col. Terry New, 16th Air Expeditionary Wing commander.

Kenny, who has a civil engineer background, is a traditional reservist with the 910th Airlift Wing at Youngstown Reserve Station in Ohio. He volunteered for the deployed command position at Camp Bondsteel, which up until a couple of weeks ago, had been located at Camp Able Sentry near Skopje, Macedonia.

Camp Bondsteel is the headquarters for the United States-led Kosovo Force sector and the point through which all U.S. personnel process. Because the 620 EABG is responsible for the administrative control of U.S. Air Force personnel who are assigned to KFOR, it was a natural placement.

The move also co-locates them with more of the personnel they are responsible for. The staff of five that moved is responsible for approximately 40 people at four locations.

Upon taking the unit guidon, Kenny told the airmen of the 620th and the guests who attended the indoor ceremony that he was looking forward to getting the unit settled into it's new home and continuing the outstanding work the unit had been doing.

"I look forward to supporting the NATO missions and our sister services here with innovative ways to solve the challenges we will face," he said.

Kenny replaces Lt. Col. Kevin Foley. Foley, who served as the commander of the 620 EABG since the middle of September, returns to Robins Air Force Base, Ga., where he is the deputy commander of the 78th Mission Support Group.
