Boeing Selects New York Company as 767 Tanker Supplier
ST. LOUIS, Jan. 03, 2003 -- Boeing [NYSE:BA] has selected Telephonics Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of Griffon Corporation [NYSE:GFF], as a member of its nationwide team to provide the 767 Tanker Transport to the U.S. Air Force and customers around the globe.
As part of this team, Telephonics will provide the Audio Intercom System (AIS) for the modern air-refueling aircraft. The AIS is a secure, digital system that provides radio interface and allows flight and mission crews to communicate throughout the aircraft.
The agreement is valued at approximately $5 million. Work on the project will be accomplished at Telephonics facilities in Farmingdale and Huntington, N.Y., with engineering support from the company's Gardena, Calif., facility.
"Telephonics is a strong addition to our pre-eminent team of suppliers for the 767 Tanker Transport program," said Bob Gower, vice president of 767 tanker programs, part of Boeing Integrated Defense Systems. "By adding the capabilities of best-in-industry supplier partners to the unmatched Boeing tanker expertise, we are providing the highest capability, lowest risk and best value for all of our customers."

Selected in three head-to-head competitions, the first 767 Tanker Transport will be delivered to the Italian Air Force in 2005. Telephonics is providing the AIS for the four 767 Tanker Transports being built for Italy.
