General Dynamics Selected to Support Air Force Integrated Maintenance Data System
Award brings potential value of 2002 task orders to $150M under Information Technology Services contract.
NEEDHAM, Mass. – The U.S. Air Force has awarded General Dynamics Network Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), a contract to support the Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS) Functional Baseline at Maxwell AFB Gunter Annex, in Montgomery, Ala. The base award is valued at $2.7 million with options that could total $9.8 million.
This is the 14th competitive task order awarded to General Dynamics this year under the Air Force’s Information Technology Services (ITS) contract, bringing the total potential value of awards received in 2002 to $150 million. ITS is a fast and efficient acquisition vehicle that allows Air Force organizations to procure a full range of information technology services and solutions. Offering a full spectrum of IT system, software, networks, security and other services, ITS uses task order competition to assure best pricing for the Air Force.
The IMDS task order calls for General Dynamics to support the Air Force in developing a single functional baseline for five maintenance information systems as a new IMDS architecture is developed. The new architecture will integrate existing legacy systems supporting Air Force maintenance management and reporting activities into a single, modern open system, supporting nearly 150,000 Air Force personnel worldwide.
In addition to the IMDS work at Gunter Annex, General Dynamics added three new locations under the ITS contract this year. At Tinker AFB, Okla., General Dynamics is providing operational support and data services for the 38th Engineering and Installation Group. At Robins AFB, Ga., General Dynamics is providing network support services to the Electronic Warfare Avionics Integration Support Facility. For the Air National Guard in Crystal City, Va., and Andrews AFB, Md., General Dynamics is providing communications and information services for the Air Guard’s Network Operations and Security Center (NOSC), the Air National Guard Readiness Center (ANGRC), and Air National Guard Deployment Teams (DOX).
General Dynamics Network Systems has been designing and building complex information systems for 50 years. More than 4,000 skilled technical personnel provide design, integration, installation and support services for information systems worldwide. General Dynamics, headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia, employs approximately 54,000 people worldwide and expects 2002 revenues of $14 billion.
