PORT HUENEME, Calif. (NNS) -- Building strong structural foundations is a major part of what the Navy's Construction Force has long been about.
Building solid training and educational foundations for the Seabees and Civil Engineer Corps officers within the Naval Construction Force is what the new Center for Seabees and Facilities Engineering (CSFE) is all about.
After standing up in a provisional status Oct. 31, the CSFE is now officially operating from Naval Base Ventura County in Port Hueneme, Calif.
The location allows direct coordination between Center managers and many of the Naval Construction Force, along with fleet units who set the requirements and require the skills the center provides. Port Hueneme is also home to the Seabee Technical Training School, Pacific, and the Civil Engineer Corps Officer School, two of the three principal training elements under the center's direction.
Working hand-in-hand with these fleet commands, the center is taking advantage of initiatives being implemented Navywide by the Task Force for Excellence through Commitment to Education and Learning (EXCEL). The CSFE is currently engaged in completing new job task analyses for the seven Seabee ratings (builders, construction electricians, construction mechanics, engineering aides, equipment operators, steel workers and utilitiesmen), as well as for the functions of the new center itself.
"Bringing the best available education and learning systems to our Seabees, developing individualized professional continuums and centralizing construction force knowledge, skills and abilities, will encourage Sailors to excel both professionally and personally," said CSFE Commanding Officer Capt. Pete Saunders. "Making our Seabees better will result in increased operational readiness within the fleets and greater success in mission accomplishment. This is what the Revolution in Training is all about."
