KUNSAN AIR BASE, Republic of Korea -- The 35th Fighter Squadron "Pantons" returned from clawing through Keen Sword 03 exercise in Japan.

Deployed Wolf Pack members pulled together at Tsuiki Air Base, Japan to participate in the regularly scheduled joint/combined exercise designed to train and evaluate wartime functions and bilateral cooperation procedures.

"It was excellent," said Staff Sgt. Stan Lyons, 8th Maintenance Squadron egress shop shift supervisor. "I was impressed with the 35th FS because they kept the jets going and we didn't miss any sorties. We worked as a pretty good team, and we helped each other out."

Lyons said he normally helps keep the Wolf Pack ejection systems in line, but since things were going so well in his duty section, he spent his time on the flightline between volunteering as an F-16 "B-man" launch assistant or in the aerospace ground equipment shop.

Keen Sword is a bilateral exercise designed to enhance air operations in the mutual defense of Japan.

The bi-annual Keen Edge/Keen Sword exercise series alternates between Keen Sword, a field training exercise during odd fiscal years, and Keen Edge, a command post exercise during even fiscal years.

"You couldn't ask for a better host," Lyons added. "As small as the base was there, the Japanese liaison officer's support we had was unbelievable."

Keen Sword 03 was an 18-day exercise supported at U.S. and Japanese military installations throughout Japan and concluded Nov. 22. (PACAFNS)
