Defence Minister, Adam Ingram, today outlined plans for the UK's Naval Task Group 2003 (NTG 03). NTG deployments are routine and programmed every three years. The main focus of NTG 03 is Exercise Flying Fish, a multi-national exercise held under the Five Power Defence Arrangements (FDPA) in the Asia Pacific Region.
The Task Group will also participate in a number of other multinational and bilateral exercises. They will visit over 25 countries pursuing Defence Diplomacy missions, supporting British interests abroad and demonstrating continuing commitment to the security of the Gulf and Asia Pacific regions.
The FPDA exercise, Flying Fish, will be hosted by Malaysia and is scheduled to take place off the Malaysia/Singapore peninsula, starting in June.
The Task Group will be commanded by the Commander UK Maritime Force, Rear Admiral Snelson, onboard HMS Ark Royal. It will comprise the frigate HMS Marlborough and the destroyer, HMS Liverpool with support from RFA Fort Victoria and RFA Orangeleaf. A Fleet submarine will also be assigned.
