SEYMOUR JOHNSON AIR FORCE BASE, N.C. (ACCNS) -- Air Combat Command officials announced Thursday that Seymour Johnson is the 2002 winner of the Installation Excellence Award.

Command officials at Langley Air Force Base, Va., chose Seymour as the ACC installation that maximized its resource potential during fiscal year 2002.

Col. Rick Rosborg, the commander of the 4th Fighter Wing, said he was extremely proud of everyone on Team Seymour. He said the base's recognition comes as a testament to the outstanding work of every member of Team Seymour, both inside and outside the gates.

"This is a victory for the people in the Seymour Johnson and Wayne County communities," Rosberg said.

Seymour's road to victory began last month when the installation excellence team evaluators came to view the 4th Fighter Wing's mission.

The efforts of the base's junior enlisted members during the visit is the true reason behind Seymour's victory, Rosborg said.

"This demonstrates the superior teamwork and effort put forth by all of our people," he said.

Seymour's award is $100,000 to spend on quality-of-life and quality-of-job initiatives. Team Seymour's win qualifies the base to participate in the Air Force competition. The winner is awarded $1 million.

"This is the latest in a long-line of accomplishments I've seen Team Seymour make over the past few months," Rosborg said. "My next challenge to the people of this base is to come up with ideas on how we're going to spend all this money."

Seymour Johnson also received ACC's Installation Excellence Award in 2000.
