YOKOSUKA, Japan -- There's no mistaking what U.S. Navy ship this is, as USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) crew members stand tall against the backdrop of the carrier's hull number -- 63.
The ship got underway from its forward-deployed port here Oct. 25. The crew, with Carrier, Air Wing 5 embarked, will conduct flight operations while at sea. Sailors will also train during numerous drills throughout the ship and complete professional qualifications.
Kitty Hawk Sailors returned here Oct. 18 following a four-day at-sea period, ready for upcoming challenges.
The ship's combat systems department, like other departments, focused on ensuring personnel and equipment was ready to go for Hawk's current underway period.
Kitty Hawk is the U.S. Navy's only permanently forward-deployed aircraft carrier.
