BAE SYSTEMS, GE extend preferred-supplier agreement for gas turbine electronic engine controls

17 Oct 2002

BAE Systems Controls and GE Aircraft Engines have extended an agreement under which BAE Systems is the preferred supplier of gas turbine electronic engine controls for GE's commercial and military engines. The arrangement, in place since 1996, now extends through 2010.

"We have enjoyed a close relationship with GE Aircraft Engines since 1984 and are gratified that GE continues to demonstrate such a high level of confidence in our technology and our products," said James Scanlon, BAE Systems Controls president. "This agreement will benefit both companies by continuing what has been a highly productive collaboration."

The agreement provides for BAE Systems to supply electronic engine controls and harnesses for GE engines.

BAE Systems Controls won its first contract from GE in 1984 to develop a new generation of engine controls. BAE Systems now produces an array of digital and analogue engine controls for both commercial and military aircraft. The engine-mounted units are designed and built to withstand harsh conditions and perform dependably.

BAE Systems commercial engine controls have logged nearly 350 million hours of service on engines that power more than 7,000 aircraft operated by some 250 airlines. An airliner operating with BAE Systems engine controls takes off every three seconds. The company's military engine controls fly on a diverse range of fixed-wing platforms including the F/A-18, F-14, F-15, F-16, KC-135, A-10, and Swedish JAS 39. Rotary-wing aircraft with BAE Systems engine controls include the AH-64, UH-60, AH-1W, and Bell 214.
