CACI Awarded $48.5 Million Contract to Support U.S. Navy Submarine Missile Program
Company to Support Targeting Software for Ballistic and Cruise Missiles
Arlington, Va., October 15, 2002 — CACI International Inc (NYSE:CAI) announced today that it has been awarded a $48.5 million contract with the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Dahlgren Division in Dahlgren, Virginia, to provide technical and engineering services to the Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile (SLBM) program. CACI will provide software testing and related support for TRIDENT submarine fire control systems. The seven-year recompete award expands both the scope and value of the work CACI performs for NSWC Dahlgren, and increases the company's engineering and logistics business with the U.S. Navy.
Effective fire control software is critical to ensuring the precision targeting of missiles. NSWC Dahlgren, the Navy's premier weapon system research and development center, supports the TRIDENT fire control systems through its K Department, whose mission is to ensure the systems are always ready for a strategic launch. With this new award, K Department also extends its support to the Ship Submersible Guided Nuclear (SSGN) program, which is retrofitting ballistic-missile submarines to carry cruise missiles. This provides a quick-reaction tactical capability that is vital to America's defense requirements.
CACI's services will ensure Navy-developed fire control software is delivered error-free, on time, and ready to support both the ballistic and cruise missile programs. The company's software expertise, years of SLBM experience, and veteran SLBM personnel enable it to provide realistic and accurate testing that frees Navy software developers to focus on requirements to sustain current systems and upgrade to new capabilities.
CACI also provides innovative configuration management for SLBM. The company has introduced and tailored to the NSWC environment a software tool which is now used enterprise-wide to support the fire control systems' software life cycle. Moreover, as an organization with software development processes certified at Software Engineering Institute (SEI) Level 3, CACI offers expert assistance for the SLBM program's own move toward SEI Level 3. Organizations rated at SEI Level 3 generally have more successful project deliveries and are rated higher in client satisfaction.
According to Ken Johnson, President of CACI's U.S. Operations, "As the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren upgrades the capabilities of our Navy's submarine missile fire control systems, CACI will continue to provide skilled personnel, innovative methodologies, and proven solutions for mission success. We offer in-depth and uninterrupted support for this key technology component of America's missile program."
CACI Chairman and CEO Dr. J.P. (Jack) London commented, "CACI's award with the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren continues our 20-year legacy of support for the Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile program. It confirms the success of CACI's ongoing philosophy of client-centered support, as well as our ability to leverage information technology expertise and Defense Department experience to provide high-quality solutions for defense needs."
