US Army Bradleys to Get RAFAEL's reactive Armor

RAFAEL Supply Reactive Armor for Bradley Fighting Vehicles

10 October 2002 -- RAFAEL Israel Armament Development Authority Ltd. will supply reactive armor protection kits to US Army Bradley Fighting Vehicles, under contract awarded to Armament and Technical Products, a business unit of General Dynamics. RAFAEL and General Dynamics are operating under a strategic partnership on this program, where each company shares 50% of the production workload. The $19.4 million order, received from the U.S. Army’s TACOM / ARDEC Picatinny Arsenal covers procurement of 56 reactive armor vehicle sets and 170 partial sets for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. The contract also includes funding for the qualification and first-article testing of a product upgrade to further improve crew and vehicle survivability over the current design. Work will be completed by January 30, 2004.

With the new reactive armor, the Bradley is better able to withstand a direct hit from a variety of anti-armor munitions, including shoulder-fired rocket propelled grenades, which are in abundant supply in many of today’s regional conflicts.

This order represents the continuation of a successful program with the Army and a successful relationship with the prime contractor for the program, General Dynamics. A total of 409 sets of reactive armor have been delivered since the inception of the program. Qualification of the new reactive armor design could extend production deliveries several more years.
