Engine Running Tests of the First Series Production Eurofighter for the Spanish Air Force
Madrid, 23 September 2002
EADS CASA Military Aircraft is steadily approaching the delivery of the first series production aircraft for the Spanish Air Force. One important step towards this goal were the successful engine trials conducted by EADS CASA Military Aircraft with the first twin seater aircraft, named ST001 on September 11th and 13th, 2002. It is the first time that the industry carries out those tests on a full-scale series production aircraft for delivery to a Eurofighter partner Air Force. The engine trials were performed in the hush house built by EADS CASA Military Aircraft following the requirements of the Eurofighter programme.
Under the direction and control of the systems engineers and the heads of the production line the following tests were carried out:
* Engine Ground Running Checks
* Electrical Generation.
70% of low compressor speed has been achieved during the first trial, exactly as planned, reaching max dry and max rehead with both engines (alternatively and simultaneously) in the following trials. The results of these tests have also allowed to checks the correct performance of the aircraft integrated systems. LLSC (Low Level Swept Coupling) electro-magnetic compatibility tests where also carried out on the aircraft, Programme Manager Jose Luis Barandica appeared clearly satisfied for such results that confirm the progress of the programme. At this point, he said, the maiden flight might clearly be seen at the beginning of October.
