BAE SYSTEMS AN/UPX-37 Digital Interrogator Receives Aims Certification
13 Sep 2002
BAE Systems North America announced that its Advanced Systems business unit, with headquarters in Greenlawn, New York, has received AIMS level certification of its AN/UPX-37 IFF Digital Interrogator from the U.S. DoD International AIMS Program Office.
AIMS is the military acronym for an air traffic control radar beacon system which incorporates Identification, Friend or Foe (IFF) technology to allow military users to quickly differentiate between allied and unknown or enemy weapon systems platforms. The United States Department of Defense International AIMS Program Office at Robins AFB, Georgia, has oversight responsibility for the system's IFF architecture.
BAE Systems Advanced Systems Vice President and General Manager Pat McMahon said, "AIMS certification of the AN/UPX-37 is an important milestone for the program. It certifies that our IFF digital interrogator is one of very few systems to meet the stringent performance standards established by the Department of Defense."
The AN/UPX-37 Digital Interrogator is currently in full production with more than 170 units delivered to the US Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and the navies of several other nations. The U.S. Navy is installing it fleet-wide as that service's standard IFF Interrogator.
The AN/UPX-37 provides the capability for military platforms to operate in Mode 5 and Mode S. These two modes incorporate newly adopted requirements of the DoD, and provide enhanced performance for the IFF system.
