General Dynamics Awarded $15.2 Million for Army Telecommunications Modernization
NEEDHAM, Mass. – The U.S. Army has awarded General Dynamics Network Systems four delivery orders totaling $15.2 million to upgrade and expand the telecommunications infrastructure at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and eight installations in the Republic of Korea, Germany and Japan. The orders were issued under the Army's Digital Switch Systems Modernization Program. General Dynamics Network Systems is a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).
General Dynamics will modernize the data network and supporting infrastructure at each installation. This includes gigabit-Ethernet technology for the data network and an enhanced outside cable plant – work that includes construction of manholes, duct systems, and fiber and copper cable systems – to serve future telecommunications needs.
“These have been vigorous and technically challenging competitions, and these awards reflect our strong corporate commitment to serving Army telecommunications needs worldwide,” said Dan Allen, a vice president and general manager for General Dynamics Network Systems. “General Dynamics is excited about the opportunity to enhance the enterprise-wide communications capabilities of these critically important Army posts."
Two of the four awards – Camp Zama, Japan, and Fort Leonard Wood – consist of developing engineering design plans for the posts’ infrastructure and data networks upgrades. The other awards, one for three posts in the Seoul area of South Korea and one for four posts in Germany, consist of implementing engineering designs developed by the Army’s Information Systems Engineering Command.
These competitive acquisitions were managed by the Army's Communications-Electronics Command Acquisition Center, Fort Monmouth, N.J., and oversight will be provided by the Project Manager, Defense Communications and Army Switched Systems, of the Army’s Program Executive Office, Enterprise Information Systems.
