NNS020812-02. Naples to Get New Navy Hospital

By Lt. Stephen Elgin, USNH Naples Public Affairs

NAPLES, ITALY (NNS) -- A new Navy hospital is nearing completion in the Naples area.

The new facility at the Support Site in Gricignano is approximately 80 percent complete and is scheduled to begin accepting patients at the end of February 2003.

The hospital will open when its commanding officer accepts the "keys" to the facility on Jan. 31, 2003, and the clinics, wards and administrative spaces have had a chance to move.

The facility Education and Training Team already has a plan in motion to ensure the orientation of all hospital staff members to their new environment. This will be done with the hospital's beneficiaries in mind so the transition from their viewpoint will be seamless.

The process for making an appointment will not change, just the phone numbers that you called previously. These are currently being determined and will be announced at a time closer to the opening of the new facility. They will be published both by mail to all of our TRICARE beneficiaries as well as in Panorama.

Healthcare is "Job One" for the hospital and the transition will be conducted with that in mind. Emergency care will remain in place at the current hospital until the new facility's Emergency Room is fully operational.

The actual date and time of the ER switch will be as the opening of the facility approaches.
