BAE SYSTEMS to supply radar warning receivers for Korean F-15K Fighter
12 Aug 2002
BAE Systems has received a contract to develop and manufacture the next-generation radar warning receivers (RWR) for the Republic of Korea's F-15K fighter program. The Boeing Company awarded the letter contract to BAE Systems Information & Electronic Warfare Systems (IEWS), headquartered in Nashua, New Hampshire, July 15. The contract value is expected to be $58 million.
Under the contract, BAE Systems Threat Warning & Defensive Systems (TW&DS), Yonkers, New York, will design and develop 42 ALR-56C(V)1 radar warning receivers for installation in the F-15K aircraft.
The ALR-56C(V)1 system to be integrated on the Korean F-15K is an upgrade to the ALR-56C system. Earlier versions of the ALR-56 system have also been provided by BAE Systems to more than 1,000 U.S. Air Force and international customers. The ALR-56C(V)1 radar warning receiver detects radar-guided weapon systems threats, warns the pilot, and cues appropriate countermeasures.
The ALR-56C(V)1 is part of the F-15K's integrated Tactical Electronic Warfare Suite (TEWS), which also includes the ALE-47 Countermeasure Dispenser System made by BAE Systems Integrated Defense Solutions, Austin, Texas, and the ALQ-135 Internal Countermeasures System from Northrop Grumman Corporation.
"This state-of-the-art EW protection system will provide allied pilots with expanded situational awareness and warning capabilities," said Art Schuetz, TW&DS Vice President and General Manager. "We're proud to continue our long-standing relationship with Boeing to field an aircraft with such great capabilities for the Republic of Korea's defence."
First flight of the Korean F-15K is planned for April 2005. ALR-56C(V)1 systems deliveries are expected to be completed by 2007.
