Army Awards First Contract in $6 Billion WIN-T Program
General Dynamics-led Team Awarded $72 Million Development Contract
TAUNTON, Mass. – General Dynamics C4 Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been awarded one of two development contracts for the U.S. Army’s Warfighter Information Network – Tactical (WIN-T). The two-phase development contract has a value of up to $72 million. WIN-T is the Army’s next-generation warfighting communications system. This is the first contract in a program estimated to be worth $6 billion.
Under Phase I of this development contract, the General Dynamics team will define and document the optimal WIN-T architecture. In Phase II, the team will develop and deliver a demonstration suite of hardware and software for government testing.
WIN-T will be the integrating high-speed, high-capacity communications network for the Objective Force – the Army’s transformational vision for a fighting force that is more responsive, agile, versatile, deployable, lethal and survivable. It will move information to support commanders, staffs, functional units and formations, enhancing the ability of the theater Commander in Chief to perform multiple missions simultaneously. WIN-T will establish standards and protocols for all Objective Force applications and network hosts.
By exploiting state-of-the-art communications, terrestrial and airborne assets, space-based resources, computing systems and capabilities, WIN-T will provide the Army with technical advantages to meet the battlefield Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C4ISR) challenges of the 21st century.
“We commend the Army for moving ahead now to implement its network-centric tactical communications system for the 21st century. The WIN-T system of systems will help ensure the success of the Army’s transformation to the Objective Force,” said Jerry DeMuro, president, General Dynamics C4 Systems. “General Dynamics is eager to open this new chapter in its continued partnership with the U.S. Army.”
