USS Columbus Returns Home

Chief Machinist Mate Paul Cavalarro receives a lei from his son Paul after USS Columbus (SSN 762) returned to Pearl Harbor on Aug. 8.
The Los Angeles Class nuclear submarine had just completed a six month deployment to the Western Pacific. The submarine is 360 feet long and carries a crew of 130 men.
"We were known as the Squadron work horse," said Electronics Technician 2nd Class Clifton Patterson. "We were tasked with a lot of missions and successfully completed all of them." The Alexandria, Va. native added the crew also enjoyed liberty in Singapore, Guam and Japan.
