ATK Awarded $27 Million Contract To Assist Egypt in Development of Tank Ammunition Production Capability

Minneapolis, Aug. 8, 2002 – ATK (Alliant Techsystems, NYSE: ATK) has been awarded a $27 million contract from the U.S. Army Operations Support Command, Rock Island, Ill., to assist the government of Egypt in the development of a capability to produce 120mm tank training ammunition.

Under the three-year contract, ATK Ammunition Systems, Arden Hills, Minn., will provide technical expertise, equipment, and ammunition components to support the manufacture of 45,000 rounds of 120mm training ammunition at production facilities near Cairo. The company will also construct and install all necessary equipment for a 120mm ammunition test firing range.

ATK Ammunition Systems is involved in a number of similar international ammunition production assistance programs, including:

· The establishment of a 25mm ammunition manufacturing facility in a NATO allied nation that involves purchasing and installing equipment, training operations personnel, and overseeing production start-up.

· A contract to supply hardware for 25mm ammunition to SNC Technologies, Inc., Le Gardeur, Quebec, Canada, which is assembling the rounds and delivering them to the Canadian military forces for use in light armored vehicles.

· Agreements with Hellenic Arms Industry (EBO), Athens, Greece, to support the development of production capabilities for 120mm tank ammunition and 30mm ammunition for use by Apache helicopters.
