Friedrichshafen, 07 August 2002
EADS is to supply a further mobile field hospital to the medical service of the German Bundeswehr. As EADS affiliate Dornier GmbH announced on Wednesday, the Federal Office of Defence Technology and Procurement (BWB) has awarded it the contract worth approx. 25 million Euro for the supply of a further mobile field hospital.
The mobile field hospital is composed of TransHospital mobile modular units and is equivalent to a stationary 200-bed hospital. It comprises 48 containers for a total of 21 medical functional units including e.g. operating theatre, intensive care, shock treatment, X-ray and neurology. The delivery, due to be completed by the end of 2004, will bring the total number of medical containers in use by the Bundeswehr to over 250.
“This latest Bundeswehr contract underscores the significance of our mobile medical systems for the medical service against a background of increased missions in the world’s trouble spots. The contract once again confirms our leading position in this market segment”, explains Dr. Stefan Zoller, President and CEO of EADS Business Unit Systems & Defence Electronics.
Johann Heitzmann, Senior Vice President of the Operating Unit Airborne Systems: “We are pleased to have been able to provide further essential support to the Federal Armed Forces’ Medical Service for its global missions.
The extremely positive experience gained in the deployment of the units supplied hitherto endorses our decision to be involved in this business segment.”
The system was designed for extreme climatic conditions and the surgical area complies with clinical standards according to DIN 1946. The requirements for both the special hygienic conditions and for autonomous operation under NBC (nuclear, biological, chemical) conditions have been met. Independent power and water supplies contribute to this. Depending on operational needs, various versions can be implemented.
