Northrop Grumman Awarded Night Vision Contracts by U.S. Army, Navy and Marine Corps

GARLAND, Texas, July 15, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Electro-Optical Systems (EOS) business unit has received contracts for image-intensified night vision products that will enable U.S. armed forces to more effectively conduct night operations.

The U.S. Army's Communications-Electronics Command, Ft. Monmouth, N.J., has ordered additional units of the AN/PVS-14 monocular and AN/PVS-7D goggle as part of the five-year Omnibus VI contract. This award allows production under the Omnibus V contract to continue uninterrupted. The first-year total for systems and spares exceeds $12 million, with a potential value of $210 million if all options are exercised.

In addition, Northrop Grumman EOS has received new delivery releases worth $3.1 million under an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract from the U.S. Navy's Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) -- Crane Division. The company will produce a combination of AN/PVS-7C goggles, AN/PVS-18 monoculars and AN/PVS-15 binocular goggles, all of which must meet a 66-foot submersibility requirement for fleet protection service and Special Forces deployment.

NSWC -- Crane Division has also exercised an option worth $7 million under which EOS will supply the U.S. Marine Corps with additional AN/PVS-17 miniature night vision sights. This option, exercised within a few months of the original July 2002 contract, calls for a combination of the 2.25X and 4.5X magnification variants of the carbine and rifle sight. The USMC is fielding the AN/PVS-17 as rapidly as possible to Marine units deployed worldwide.

"These contracts confirm Northrop Grumman's relationship with the U.S. armed forces as a long-term strategic supplier," said John Donehoo, president of Northrop Grumman's Electro-Optical Systems business unit. "They will help to ensure the advance of image-intensified night vision and our ongoing development of image fusion, which combines image-intensified with forward-looking infrared technology in a single system."

Northrop Grumman is a strategic manufacturer of the latest generations of night vision image intensifiers and systems for military, law enforcement, and search and rescue operations serving all U.S. military services and many allied countries. In addition, the company designs and manufactures advanced infrared sensors/cameras, thin film coatings, and advanced optical components.
