General Dynamics Awarded $260M Air Force Contract for Deployable Communications Systems
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – General Dynamics Decision Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has been awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract with a potential value of $260 million by the U.S. Air Force (USAF) for manufacturing and integrating Theater Deployable Communications Integrated Communications Access Packages (TDC ICAP). At this time, $20 million has been obligated against the contract.
TDC is a state-of-the-art ground communications system that is flexible, portable and rapidly deployable. Through the system, Air Force units can send and receive secure voice, data and video messages via wireless, satellite or other existing phone and wireline systems. The TDC ICAP modules have been tested through the Joint Interoperability Test Center (JITC) for interface with current U.S. Air Force legacy systems within all areas of operation requiring deployable communications.
"In a military theater requiring constant, reliable communication, TDC ICAP is the ticket to the show. It can be built from the ground up in the most severe conditions in a matter of hours," said Ron Taylor, vice president of communications systems for General Dynamics Decision Systems. "TDC provides quick set-up for global communication capability for military users at the base and to command centers wherever they may be."
The original USAF TDC ICAP contract, awarded in October 1996, was valued at $263.7 million and included the delivery of more than 1,700 units.
