BAE SYSTEMS Rovis Intercom enters Austrian Army service
02 Jul 2002
BAE Systems C4ISR has achieved a further landmark in pursuit of the world-wide adoption of the ROVIS vehicle digital intercom system with its entry into service in Austria.
The Army's Leopard 2A5 main battle tanks are the first Austrian vehicles to be fielded with the system under a contract for over 1,200 units awarded to BAE Systems Land Platform Communications at Blackburn, United Kingdom, by the BMLV. Further applications include the Ulan armoured infantry-fighting vehicle and the Saurer armoured personnel carrier.
The official hand-over ceremony took place in mid June at the Army Tank School in Zwolfaxing, near Vienna - General Dr. Corrieri, Chief of Procurement, headed the Army and BMLV project teams.
ROVIS is a major advance in digital intercommunications and is the world's most widely fielded multi-station vehicle intercom system. It supports voice and data communications within military vehicles, even in extreme noise conditions.
Its comprehensive features include the capability to distribute digital data, voice-operated switching for hands-free operation, ring architecture for resilience to battle damage, active noise reduction and built-in test facilities. It features a universal radio interface to a wide range of military radios, from the VRC12 series to modern frequency hopping radios such as SINCGARS and PR4G. Over 17,000 ROVIS systems have now been delivered to twelve countries, including the US Army where it is type classified as the AN/VIC-3.
