ThalesRaytheonSystems expands role as prime contractor for French Air Force command and control centres
28 June 2002
The French defence procurement agency's aeronautical programmes department (SPAé) has awarded the "Replacement Structures" contract to ThalesRaytheonSystems in partnership with CS Systèmes d'Information and Thales Communications.
The new contract involves further work to enhance reliability of the system and communications architectures of the Control and Detection Centres (CDC). This will improve France's air defence capability, reducing the number of CDCs from six to four and accommodating their future development within the ACCS programme.
ThalesRaytheonSystems and its co-contractors will deploy new-generation Visu 5 display consoles at the CDCs at Drachenbonn, Cinq-Mars-la-Pile and Mont-de-Marsan to replace earlier-generation Visu 3 and Visu 4 consoles, as well as associated communication systems.
ThalesRaytheonSystems earlier installed new-generation Visu 5 consoles at the Lyon-Mont-Verdun CDC as part of the SOI programme (Solution Opérationnelle Intérimaire). Under the new contract, the partners will assume full responsibility for adapting the system and radio architectures, engineering work, and equipment installation in the ops rooms and technical plant areas.
The work is scheduled to last for three years. Throughout that period, ThalesRaytheonSystems, CS Systèmes d'Information and Thales Communications have a contractual commitment to ensure the overall operational performance of each of the CDCs. The most advanced technologies, including commercial technologies, will be used to optimise costs and deliver value for money on this ambitious project.
The French defence procurement agency (DGA) recently awarded ThalesRaytheonSystems the contract to produce the first version of the C3M mobile command and control centre, the deployable component of France's ACCS system. This latest operation makes ThalesRaytheonSystems the main industrial prime contractor for both the fixed and deployable surveillance and control centres required by the French Air Force.
