The French Air Force buys another three CN-235 aircraft from EADS CASA

Early this year, EADS CASA signed a contract with the French Ministry of Defence for the purchase of two (2) CASA CN-235 aircraft with the option of purchasing another three (3).
On June 24, 2002, EADS CASA received notification from the French authorities officially announcing the decision to purchase the other three (3) aircraft.
The French Air Force’s “Force Aérienne de Projection” already owns fifteen (15) CN-235 aircraft purchased in 1990 and 1996 for its “ Vercors” squadron. These aircraft have been operating both on continental territory, where EADS CASA also has a maintenance contract, and overseas. On two occasions, the French Air Force awarded the CN-235s the title of highest availability transport of the year.
Two (2) of the recently purchased aircraft will be delivered by the end of 2002 and the first of the three (3) remaining around the middle of 2003. These five (5) aircraft make up a total of twenty (20) CN-235s operating in the “Armée de l’air”.
The head of EADS Military Transport Aircraft Division, Francisco Fernández Sáinz said : “Customer satisfaction is our main concern. The confidence placed on EADS CASA has made us world leaders in the medium and light military transport aircraft sector.”
With revenues amounting to EUR 30.8 billion in 2001 and a workforce of over 100,000, EADS is the largest European aerospace company and the No 2 worldwide. It is active in the sectors of commercial aircraft, helicopters, space, military transport and combat aircraft as well as defence technology and services. Among others, EADS holds 80 percent of Airbus, 75 percent of the space company Astrium, 100 percent of the helicopter manufacturer Eurocopter, 43 percent in the Eurofighter programme and 37.5 percent in the missile company MBDA.
