BAE Systems has received an $82.3 million contract from the U.S. Navy to provide engineering, technical and logistics support services for the Naval Air Warfare Center's Surface Communications and Information Systems Division, Systems Modernization Branch, St. Inigoes, Maryland.

Under the five-year contract, BAE Systems Applied Technologies will support production, lifetime support engineering (LSE), and in-service engineering (ISE) for radio communication system (RCS), and command, control, communications, computer and intelligence (C4I) systems aboard Navy surface combatants, submarines, and at associated shore sites.

BAE Systems will also provide testing and certification support for the RCS and Ships Signal Exploitation Spaces on newly constructed DDG-51 Arleigh Burke class AEGIS destroyers. Support activities for the RCS include antenna design, shipboard acceptance testing and post delivery and shakedown availability. The contract also covers baseline testing of the RCS, Cryptological Combat Support System, Identification Friend or Foe, and Light Airborne Multi-Purpose System during ship availability and overhaul periods.

Support services encompass planning, engineering, design, development, equipment procurement, system build-up, land-based testing, logistics, integration, installation and testing, and data and configuration management.

The work, which is expected to be completed by May 2007, will be performed by BAE Systems Applied Technologies employees in California, Maryland. BAE Systems personnel in Chesapeake, Virginia; San Diego, California; Mayport, Florida; Bath, Maine; and Pascagoula, Mississippi will provide fleet support.

"This award continues our long established and solid partnership with NAVAIR," said Bruce Hamilton, president, BAE Systems Applied Technologies. "We're extremely pleased that we can continue to deliver quality engineering and LSE/ISE support to NAVAIR and the Fleet for the next five years."
