INTRO: Israel has launched air strikes against Palestinian targets in the Gaza Strip, following a suicide bombing in Jerusalem earlier in the day that killed at least seven people. Ross Dunn reports the bombing was the second such attack in the city in as many days.

TEXT: Israeli helicopters fired missiles at targets in Gaza City and in the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis.

The air strikes follow two suicide bombings in Jerusalem in which at least 26 people have been killed and more than 100 wounded.

In response to such attacks, Israel has announced that it is seizing and holding on to Palestinian areas until the terror is halted.

The Israel army on Wednesday took control of two Palestinian-ruled towns in the West Bank, Jenin and Qalqilya.

Heavy fighting was reported in Qalqilya as troops carried out searches for Palestinian militants. (Signed)
