MC-130 crashes in Afghanistan
06/12/02 - MACDILL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. (AFPN) -- At about 1 p.m. EDT, June 12, a U.S. Air Force MC-130 crashed on takeoff near the Bande Sardeh Dam in Afghanistan. Ten passengers were aboard the aircraft. U.S. search and rescue forces are at the crash site.
The cause of the crash is not known at this time, although it does not appear to be the result of hostile fire. The names of the servicemembers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The incident is under investigation.
