Single Lockheed Martin Radar System Replaces Four at Navy's Acoustic Naval Research Center
SYRACUSE, NY, June 3rd, 2002 -- Lockheed Martin will provide one of its Multi-Mission Surveillance Radar (MMSR) systems to the U.S. Navy for use at the Atlantic Underwater Test and Evaluation Center (AUTEC) under a contract valued at approximately $5.5 million. AUTEC is the U.S. Navy's undersea warfare systems test complex, located at Andros Island in the Bahamas. The MMSR system will measure the location of surface ships and submarines in the AUTEC test range.
The MMSR system is a variant of the Air Surveillance and Precision Approach Radar Control System (ASPARCS) that the U.S. Marine Corps purchased from Lockheed Martin in 2000. The MMSR can be mobile or fixed, with a surveillance radius up to 100 nautical miles.
"Our MMSR is the ideal surveillance radar for this type of testing," said Rick Lawrence, senior program manager for Lockheed Martin. "With its long-range surveillance capability and clutter cancellation features, it will track targets over the entire AUTEC test range to provide the U.S. Navy with the accurate positioning information that it needs at a low cost. Our single radar will replace the existing system, which uses four radars distributed along the test range coast."
Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics and Surveillance Systems (NE&SS)-Radar Systems will produce the MMSR at its Syracuse, N.Y., facility, and the system is scheduled to be delivered by September 2003.
