BAE SYSTEMS receives $20 million contract to support U.S. navy precision targeting

01 May 2002

BAE Systems has received a $20.3 million contract to provide precision targeting and imagery exploitation for the U.S. Navy at Naval Air Systems, Patuxent River, Maryland. BAE Systems Mission Solutions in San Diego, California, will modify the Navy's Precision Targeting Workstation to support precision targeting applications. This contract will also accelerate the Navy's plan to migrate Tomahawk targeting applications to the Precision Targeting Workstation designed, developed, and produced by BAE Systems.

According to Ralph Wade, program director at Mission Solutions, the new enhancements to the Workstation will significantly increase the Navy's ability to conduct time-critical strike operations. "Merging the Tomahawk precision targeting features into the Precision Targeting Workstation will streamline operational timelines and ease operator training requirements aboard ships and at the cruise missile support activities," Wade added.

BAE Systems Mission Solutions has been the Navy's primary supplier of precision targeting applications since the inception of the Tomahawk program. Subsequently, BAE Systems precision targeting systems were enhanced to support other emerging precision weapons and integrated with other critical operational systems. The systems are currently installed on all U.S. aircraft carriers, large deck amphibious ships, command ships and at locations ashore.
