Powell Meets Israeli Peace Coalition
(Gives brief remarks prior to meeting April 16) (180) Secretary of State Colin Powell told reporters April 16 he would discuss Israeli and Palestinian actions aimed at improving the current situation at the conclusion of his visit to the Middle East, possibly Wednesday, April 17. Powell was speaking prior to meeting with members of the Israeli Peace Coalition. POWELL BEFORE MEETING WITH PEACE COALITION MEMBERS Jerusalem April 16, 2002 QUESTION: What do you expect, a roadmap for Israeli withdrawal and a statement by Yasser Arafat condemning terrorism before you leave; and also for Mr. Beilin and Mr. Safir, do you think that the Israeli military offensive over the last few weeks has hurt chances for a cease-fire?
